At First Place we regard sharing snack and meal times as an important part of the children’s day. Eating represents a social time for children and adults, and helps children to learn about healthy eating. At snack and meal times we provide nutritious food from the main food groups, avoiding large quantities of fat, sugar, salt, artificial additives, preservatives and colourings.

We use meal and snack times to help children to develop independence through making healthy food choices, serving food and drink and feeding themselves. Your child will also learn about the importance of hygiene and will establish regular eating patterns. Along with three meals a day your child will be offered healthy snacks and will be offered milk or water to drink.

Our meals are carefully prepared using the highest quality ingredients. Our nurseries are nut free and we take care not to provide food containing nuts or nut products and we are especially vigilant where we have a child or staff member who has a known allergy to nuts.

Our meals are provided by a catering company that cater for all intolerances and allergies. The kitchen is regularly inspected by Hertsmere Environmental Health.

Menus are reviewed and changed regularly for nutritional content, variety and popularity and are displayed for parents to see.
