  • Safeguarding - we are all responsible

    What is the Prevent duty?

As from 1st July 2015, all childcare providers have a duty of care to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. We keep our children safe and take measures to assess the risk of children being drawn into terrorism by having robust safeguarding procedures. First Place Nurseries value the diversity of backgrounds of all children and families in our communities. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our nurseries play in promoting these values.

  • British Values are a set of four values introduced to help keep children safe and promote their welfare. At First Place we actively promote British Values during our day to day practice as follows:

    Democracy –making decisions together

Managers and staff encourage children to listen to each other’s views and opinions. Children are given opportunities to work together to learn turn taking, sharing and co-operation.

Rule of law- understanding that rules matter

Staff ensure children are involved in collaborating rules and boundaries to help them to begin to learn right from wrong and the consequences. The children are encouraged to talk about their emotions and independently make their own friendships.

    Individual Liberty-freedom for all

Children are supported to develop a positive sense of themselves which in turn increase their confidence in their own abilities. Children are taught that it is acceptable to have a different opinion and to reflect on their differences.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance-treat others as you want to be treated

Children learn and respect that we have differences which enhance our community. We welcome and celebrate all festivals and staff promote diverse attitudes to the children.
