Forest School

  • Forest School Information

  • Forest schools enrich children’s learning through first hand experiences in a naturally challenging environment. Forest school is an opportunity for children to spend a length of time in a woodland or outdoor setting and they gradually become familiar with the setting through repeated safe activities. Activities are planned towards the Early Years Foundation Stage just as they are in nursery. The children interact with the environment at their own pace, carry out challenges and are given support to ensure achievement . As they master the challenges their confidence grows in other situations too.

At Radlett we run Forest school for children aged between 2- 5 years as part of our curriculum, all year round, both on and off site and the sessions are led by our qualified Forest school leader.

A typical session starts with snack, followed by an activity usually with something to take home. There is often a follow up activity to do at home too. The children are outside for approximately 2 hours and if we are off site, they will be taken and returned to nursery by mini bus.

The children will need to bring suitable clothing for all weathers including wellington boots and a paddle suit which can be purchased from our uniform supplier  They will need a change of clothes at nursery too in case they get wet or muddy.
